Well, that depends…
Hemp seed oil comes from the seeds of the hemp plant. The seeds are cold-pressed to produce an oil that is nutty in flavor and is considered to be nature’s most nutritionally balanced oil.
Hemp seed oil can be used as salad dressing, paint, ink, and body care products.
There are two types of hemp seed oil: refined and unrefined.
1) UNREFINED : Unrefined, cold-pressed hemp seed oil is green in color with a nutty flavor. Cold pressed hemp oil preserves hemp’s nutritious content, but has a limited shelf life and should be stored in the refrigerator once opened. Think edible products, like salad dressing.
2) REFINED : Refined hemp seed oil is clear and colorless and has a much longer shelf life – this also entails a decreased potency of vitamins and antioxidants.
CBD extracts are produced either one of two ways:
1) Directly from cannabis flowers that are up to 15% or 150,000 parts per million (ppm) CBD.
2) Indirectly as a co-product of the flowers and leaves that are mixed in with the stalks during hemp stalk processing for fiber.
CBD is not a product or component of hemp seeds, but hemp oil does contain low
levels of CBD; however, it’s typically less than 25 ppm.
CBD is what has been known to contain a plethora of medicinal benefits ranging from treatment of cancer and epilepsy to treatment of neurodegenerative disorders.
Hemp essential oil, also called cannabis flower oil, is an essential oil obtained by steam distillation from the flowers and upper leaves of the hemp plant. After distillation there is no THC or CBD remaining, only the natural essence of the plant.
Hemp essential oil has been cherished throughout history and was commonly used in Egypt both medicinally and spiritually as it’s a highly concentrated aroma known for its therapeutic abilities on the central nervous system, helping relieve stress and relax the body. Although it has many healing properties, it is also used as a base oil for other aromatherapy oil blends.
It takes fifty pounds of plant material to make only 1 ounce of hemp essential oil making it one of the most elusive essential oils in the world.
(For purchasing purposes and additional information, please keep in mind both CBD oil and hemp essential oil typically come in dark glass vials.)
